D. Pedro, Duque de Bragança, founder of public liberty, its donor and avenger, at the impetus of Divinity and his magnanimity of soul, arrived to the beaches of Porto and there, with his army and the great and almost incredible help provided by the ‘Portuenses’, avenging at the same time and with fair weapons, Portugal, both tyrant who oppressed it as all his faction, electing the Duque. For this reason, and even in life, that place where he so magnanimously exposed his life for the country, would be the place, after his death, to rest his heart.
D. Amélia Augusta, most beloved consort of the Duque willingly fulfils the vow of her husband placed reverently in an urn the mortal remains of the heart of the king and offer it to the city of Porto where it remains at Igreja da Lapa.
An enrolment refers to a proclamation directed by Pedro IV to ‘Portuense’ people during his visit to the ‘Invicta’ in 1834:
“… I congratulate myself to see in the theater of my glory in the midst of my Portuenses friends, those whom, for the aid they gave me during the memorial site, the name acquired, and honored, I let in inheritance to my children. My heart will remain in Porto.”
