In addition to these titles which have been assigned over the centuries and following the valorous deeds of its inhabitants, Porto was in 1837, by decree of Queen D. Maria II awarded with the title of Invicta for the heroic effort and resistance of the people from Porto and the liberal army of D. Pedro IV, her father, which granted the victory toward the absolutist forces of D. Miguel during the Cerco do Porto battle.
